Assessment
STANDARDS-BASED ASSESSMENT
Beaverton School District uses Standards-Based Assessment for all student learning. Students'
work will be tied to District Learning Targets and Summary Judgments will be reported using the following
scale:
H (4) - Highly Proficient
P (3) - Proficient
N (2) - Nearing Proficiency
D (1) - Developing Proficiency
The
goal is for each student to develop content knowledge and skills in
these areas over the course of the year until s/he is proficient.
Students will have multiple opportunities to demonstrate proficiency
for the learning targets. These marks do not correspond to
traditional letter grades which average student work. Instead, they
represent the level of mastery achieved by the end of a skill or content
unit.
*** In World Language, students consistently scoring at the D level (1) (especially in Writing, Speaking, and Grammar/Vocabulary Proficiency) are not developing their skills at a high enough level to be able to move on to the next level of Spanish. For World Language, all students can show proficiency in all levels right from the beginning in the various skills. It is based on their level and the topics they are currently learning. If they receive a D (1), the student will need to work harder in and out of class to improve their skills and their knowledge of the language. If they are getting 1's for their summary judgment(s) at the end of the semester, especially in the major targets of Writing, Speaking or Grammar/Vocabulary Proficiency, it will be my expectation that they will repeat the same level of language for the next year.
Achievement Reporting. At the end of each semester, the teacher will determine Summary Judgments for each major concept and skill, referred to as Learning Targets or Reporting Categories (a group of similar learning targets) addressed that term. These marks will provide students and parents specific information about areas of strength to build upon and areas of weakness to remediate and improve upon. We encourage all parents and students to focus on the Summary Judgments.
